Rural Catholic schools confront teacher shortageAs students and teachers settle in for the 2014-15 school year, some administrators are trying to solve a problem vexing Catholic schools across rural dioceses.
There’s a shortage of qualified teachers, according to Tim Havican, principal of Holy Rosary Catholic School, Medford.
“What we’ve found here is we have a really hard time attracting good candidates,” he said.
New principal for Hudson schoolPeter Noll, the education director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference since 1999, has been hired as principal of St. Patrick School, Hudson. Prior to his time at MCC, Noll, who holds a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Minnesota, worked as a principal for five different Catholic schools throughout Minnesota and as the curriculum director for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Principal hired for Park Falls SchoolA Park Falls native with more than a decade of teaching experience will be assuming the duties of principal at St. Anthony Catholic School, Park Falls, in June. Fr. Shaji Joseph Pazukkathara, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, has confirmed Steven Eitrem’s appointment as principal. Current principal Michael Plemon is retiring at the conclusion of this, his fourth year in the position.
