The diocese offers an excellent educational component designed to introduce you to the rich and engaging teaching of the Church on the sacrament of matrimony, including the truth and meaning of human sexuality. As part of the course, we also offer virtue-based instruction in communication, conflict resolution, and financial decision-making. This will build on the knowledge you gained from your marriage inventory.
Preparation programs, whether a diocesan conference or parish-based day, enable couples to concentrate more intensely on the many facets of married life so they may be more aware of all the dimensions of marriage. The program helps engaged couples explore and determine the strengths and weaknesses of their relationship in terms of their future life together.
Pre-Marriage Retreat Day offers virtue-based topics on spirituality/faith, communication, conflict resolution skills, financial decision-making, intimacy/cohabitation, children, commitment, ceremony planning, marriage as a sacrament, sexuality, theology of the body, and couple prayer. The purpose of these courses is to deepen the couples’ understanding of the sacrament, helping the couple to get to know each other, learn about their values, and become even more aware of one’s own inner worlds. Retreat content per: “Living a Joy Filled Marriage program”, ascensionpress.com.
